The services of Continuing Education go beyond the boundaries of College-owned land to provide educational opportunities to people wherever they may be located within the TCC District.
Continuing Education Services is the administrative organization of the College responsible for ensuring that continuing education activities offering the Continuing Education Unit (CEU) meet all criteria of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board. Tarrant County College is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools [1866 Southern Lane, Decatur, Georgia 30033-4097: Telephone number (404) 679-4501] to award the associate degree. These instructional activities are offered in a variety of formats ranging from courses, seminars, workshops, and conferences.
Continuing Education Services at TCC offers opportunities for individuals to stay current in new developments in their present occupations or to further their education for new careers or new fields of interest. These community service/continuing education offerings may vary in length from one session to a full semester, and in most cases are open to interested persons without regard to previous educational background and without formal admission.
Distance Learning courses offer students more convenience than traditional courses. Students are not required to come to campus as often for a Distance Learning course since much of the course work can be done at the student's home. Students have flexibility in selecting the time they will complete their weekly lessons and determining which day and time during a particular week they will attend orientation, seminars, and/or take exams.
In exchange for convenience, Distance Learning courses require students to have maturity, self-motivation, and self-discipline. All assignments are carefully explained in the written course materials, but the student must supply the motivation and discipline to complete each week's work. It is the student's responsibility to complete assignments and tests during the scheduled time period. Students in remote areas who wish to test at a site other than Tarrant County College must obtain approval from the Director of Distance Learning at Tarrant County College before enrolling in a course. Approval must be obtained and all arrangements for testing completed at least three weeks prior to the beginning of the semester.
Each course requires a commitment of time equal to that required by an on-campus course. Students who are employed, or who plan to seek employment, should carefully consider the amount of college work they attempt in relation to the number of hours they are employed each week. The College reserves the right to limit the course load carried by any student.
