Courses by Internet
Internet courses utilize communication through computers, the Internet, and web browsers. Students will use the Internet to access their class Web site to obtain the course syllabus, instructor notes, assignments, and testing information. Students may also be requiredto participate in classroom discussion forums, chat-rooms, or complete assignments using external Internet Web sites. Although the instructor is available by phone, the main source of contact is by e-mail.

Before You Enroll
Please review the following information before enrollment:
- All students must have access to the Internet with a computer capable of running a web browser (Internet Explorer 6.0 or greater). Click here for minimum system requirements.
- Additional system requirements and software vary by course. View Search Course Offerings on this Web site for specific information on a class.
- All students must have sufficient knowledge of their computer before taking a course via the Internet and must be able to follow all printed or electronic instructions provided for using the Distance Learning system and the Internet.
- Students must have their own connection to the Internet through an Internet Service Provider (ISP).
- Students must fulfill orientation requirements for each course in which they are enrolled (see below).
- Check course restrictions for each course in which they are enrolled (see below).
Online Classroom
Students may begin accessing their online classes at 10 a.m. on the first day of classes. Username and password information can be found on this Web site under the Virtual Classrooms (Log-In) link. Students will not be able to log-in to the classroom prior to that day.
Online Class Guide
Online Class Guide
Students taking courses online should review the Online Class Guide. This guide provides an overview of the virtual classroom and is a helpful resource for all new and returning online students.
E-Mail
All online students have a distance learning e-mail account (username@dl.tccd.edu) which may be used by the instructor to communicate with them. It is the student's responsibility to check e-mail sent to that account. Students who fail to check e-mail on a regular basis risk missing important class announcements, instructions, and assignments. There are two ways to check e-mail:
- Use the Webmail link on the class web site to check for class e-mail.
- Have e-mail forwarded to another email account.
Please note: Distance Learning is only responsible for e-mail that resides on the Distance Learning mail server. Forwarded e-mail is stored there first, then sent to the requested adddress.
Requests for assistance with technical issues should be directed to the Help Desk at help@dl.tccd.edu and not the course instructor.
Orientation Requirements
All Internet students must complete orientation requirements for each course in which they are enrolled. To see orientation requirements for a specific course, click on the Search Course Offerings link. Some courses will have only online orientations while some give students the choice of completing the orientation online or attending an on-campus session with the instructor. For some classes, on-campus orientation is mandatory. On-campus orientations for those courses which require this or provide it as an option, begin the Saturday prior to the first day of class. On-line orientations begin at 10 a.m. on the first day of classes.

See Search Course Offerings for testing locations. Pencils and Scantron sheets are provided by the testing centers. Children are not allowed in the testing centers.
