Instructional Television (ITV) college credit courses combine video and/or audio lessons with related readings and assignments. Some on-campus activities, such as examinations are required. ITV students should begin reading and watching videos the first day of class according to the schedule in their course booklet.

ITV Online Classroom

ITV students are not required to have computer access; however, each ITV course will have an online classroom available where students can access the course booklet/syllabus, announcements, newsletters, grades, and additional course information. Students may begin accessing the online classroom site at 10 a.m. on the first day of classes. Username and password information can be found on this Web site under the Virtual Classrooms (Log-In) link. Students will not be able to log-in to the classroom prior to that day.

E-Mail

All ITV students have a distance learning e-mail account (username@dl.tccd.edu) which may be used by the instructor to communicate with them. It is the student's responsibility to check e-mail sent to that account. Students who fail to check e-mail on a regular basis risk missing important class announcements, instructions, and assignments. There are two ways to check e-mail:

  • use the Webmail link on the class web site to check for class e-mail;
  • have e-mail forwarded to another email account.

Please note: Distance Learning is only responsible for e-mail that resides on the Distance Learning mail server. Forwarded e-mail is stored there first, then sent to the requested adddress.
Requests for assistance with technical issues should be directed to the Help Desk at help@dl.tccd.edu and not the course instructor.

Course Orientation

Attendance at an Instructional Television orientation is not required; however, students are encouraged to attend so they can meet their instructor and ask questions about the course.

Course Booklet/Syllabus

Students taking an ITV course must have a course booklet which contains the syllabus and other important course information.

Examinations

Examinations for all Distance Learning courses are administered by designated Testing Centers on each campus. ITV students may take their tests at any campus anytime during the Testing Center hours of operation as detailed in the course booklet. Most courses have two to four examinations covering information contained in the weekly lessons, textbook, and study guide. ITV exams are usually objective in nature, although some may involve essay questions; ITV English courses require on-campus compositions during scheduled testing weeks. Specific information concerning exams will be given at orientation and in the course booklet/syllabus. Pencils and Scantron sheets are provided by the Testing Centers. Children are not allowed in the Testing Centers.

Identification

Students must present a current photo TCC ID card, or a printed copy of the student's current TCC class schedule, plus a photo ID, such as a driver's license, to take any Distance Learning exam. There will be no exceptions to these requirements.

Grade Results

ITV tests will not be graded in the Testing Centers. Students may view their grades one week after the scheduled testing period by logging in to their classroom site. Extra credit essays, essay tests, and compositions will be graded by the instructor; refer to the course booklet for how students will receive these results. No grades will be posted to a public Web site or given over the telephone due to the Privacy Act.
